In Maze the universal language of word-free visual theatre is instrumentally transformed into an investigation of the human mind and its many facets.
The performance is a live, cinematic shadow puppet show in which tridimensional bodies and sculptures are projected on a big screen. The company’s three performers are seen on stage, visibly manipulating hand crafted objects projected through light sources, used as cameras, in order to give the public the illusion of watching a real film, complete with a variety of different shots, camera movements and angles.
The spectator is accompanied through a fragmented narration of a woman’s view of the world, with evocative scenes depicting splinters of treasured and significant moments from her life. The lyrical universe of this performance is inspired by the words and images of Poets such as Mariangela Gualtieri, Emily Dickinson, Etty Hillesum, Wislawa Szymborska and Laurie Anderson.

UnterWasser is a theatre research group founded in 2014 by Valeria Bianchi, Aurora Buzzetti and Giulia De Canio. The company stands on the border between visual theater and contemporary art, studying the reciprocal contaminations and searching for language to investigate the human and its facets.
